Anna Witkowska

Anna is een multidisciplinaire fotograaf en filmmaker. Oorspronkelijk afgestudeerd aan de Kunstacademie in Polen (2001) als keramiek-ontwerper is Anna in de afgelopen jaren op zoek gegaan naar andere kunstvormen om haar beeldtaal als kunstenaar te versterken. In 2003 verhuisde ze naar haar favoriete stad Amsterdam waar ze in 2016 afstudeerde aan de Fotoacademie met een serie foto’s en korte films ‘The Persistence of Being’, bekroond met JM Cameron Awards 2016, finalist Fine Art Award. Anna woont en werkt in Amsterdam als autonoom fotograaf en in opdracht voor verschillende klanten, gespecialiseerd voornamelijk in portret en redactionele fotografie.

In haar autonome werk reflecteert Anna op onze relatie tot tijd en ruimte en op onze perceptie en herinnering hiervan. Het geensceneerde karakter van haar fotografie, gecombineerd met filmfragmenten roept vaak associaties op met performance, waarin de figuranten en de wereld in een slow momentum van nauwelijks zichtbare maar constante verandering komen. Met het kiezen van specifieke locaties voor de performances en de wijdse cameravoering, roepen haar beelden ook een bredere vraag op, over onze existentie in de wereld. Over hoe tijd en ruimte ons beweegt.

“In my photography and film I contemplate the transitory quality of time, space and being. I show the slowdown of life, through which we become aware of our existence and of our changing perception of the world around us. My work tells a story of a human who reflects on his presence. His relation towards space and his never-ending reflection on his actual place in the world, become a main subject in my work. The figures in my work are often multiplied and alone and reinforce the universal question whether we belong here.”
